With Uptick in Bedouin Crime, Calls Grow for Israeli Government to Take Back Control of South

Israel’s Sovereignty Movement, headed by Nadia Matar and Yehudit Katzover, organized a tour of the Negev Desert on Dec. 28 for journalists, think-tank professionals and influencers to get a glimpse into the lives of the 300,000 Bedouin who live in that region.

Israeli NGOs Applaud Jail Term for Bedouin Man Convicted of Polygamy

An Israeli Bedouin resident of the Negev desert was sentenced to seven months in prison this past week by the Beersheva Magistrates Court for practicing polygamy. The sentencing was welcomed by the Israeli NGO Regavim, whose mission is to preserve Israel’s resources, and which has been studying and monitoring the practice of polygamy in the Bedouin sector for years.

The construction of a new community named “Daniel” is being built in collaboration with Merhavim; the Israeli Ministry of Construction and Housing; and ALEH, Israel’s network of care for children with severe complex disabilities.
