This past Monday evening, Jan. 9, Over 150 friends and supporters of the Max and Ruth Schwartz Sderot Hesder Institutions gathered in the main auditorium of Congregation Keter Torah, Teaneck, to celebrate the city of Sderot, Torah and the Land of Israel.
On today’s Israel Uncensored with Josh Hasten, an interview with Rabbi Ari Katz, Director of PR, Max and Ruth Schwartz Yeshivat Hesder Sderot. Katz described how the student-soldiers of the institution give back to the community during times of war and times of quiet. The Hesder, located a kilometer from the Gaza border, is also in the midst of a fundraising campaign to expand their campus and “rocketproof” their remaining unprotected buildings. As thousands of Israeli kids from the Bnei Akiva religious Zionist youth movement were celebrating the culmination of a month-long period of festive activities, Hamas tried to ruin the party by firing rockets at the southern town of Sderot. The Sderot youth who gathered for their event were shaken but not defeated as they sang “the eternal nation is not afraid of a long journey.” The message was clear – the Jews have been targeted by her enemies for thousands of years, but we’re finally home, and not going anywhere.
